The Ma7 Yagtwilc - Get Strong Program will start on Dec. 6, 2017.  We are looking for 10 youth aged 10 to 14 and their families to join this awesome program.  It runs for 14 weeks starting December 6th where we will have an Opening Feast at 5pm.  Background on the program: This is a family oriented culturally based program. The program is designed for youth and families. It will be lots of fun with snacks, prizes, games, and various activities. It will be a great opportunity to learn more about Secwepemc and Splatsin culture.  The program focuses on traditional teachings and history and will cover various topics including family communication, stress management, building support, problem solving, and other skills that contribute to individual, family and community well-being. The program will run once a week in the evening for 14 weeks and each week the evening session will begin with a meal, followed by topic discussions and activities based on traditional teachings and culture. There will be door prizes and games mixed in with learning to make the evening enjoyable, informative and fun.  Because this program is part of an intervention research project with the McGill University, participants will be asked to fill out a brief survey at the start and end of the project. These questionnaires are completely anonymous and participants are not identified in anyway.  There are three facilitators leading each session. A head Facilitator - Joel Rusk, Co-Facilitator - Tracey Pada, and Elder Facilitator - Julianna Alexander.  This Family and Youth Mental Health Promotion Project is part of a national wellness project and the program is being offered in different First Nation Communities across the country. The intervention research project is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada in partnership with the McGill University and Jewish General Hospital. If you have any questions about the program or would like to participate please contact:  Joel Rusk at 778-212-4640 or email: [email protected] Deanna Cook, Executive Director, Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn at 250-838-6404 e.1 or email to [email protected] Program Dates: Dec: 6 (Opening Feast), 12 (Tuesday), 20 Jan: 10, 17, 23 (Tuesday), 31 Feb. 7, 15 (Thursday), 21, 28 Mar: 7, 14, 21 (Closing Feast) This project is hosted by the Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn (Splatsin Teaching Centre) Society on behalf of the Splatsin First Nation.  Kukstsamc!
