Tyler Christian

Hello, my name is Tyler Christian and this summer I am working for the Splatsin Education Department as part of the Summer Employment Program working with the youth aged 6 to age 12 as a Youth Intern.

Now a little about me: My parents are Brenda Christian and Scott Henning.  I am 18 years old and have just graduated from AL Fortune Secondary.  In the fall I will continue onto Post-Secondary at Okanagan College.

This is my third year working with the youth I enjoy it very much. Previously I worked at a summer day camp at Shihiya School Elementary.

This year I am working at a youth centre that was built for the youth.  Inside the youth centre we have pool tables, computers and air hockey. My job will be help planning events and activities for the upcoming weeks ahead for the children aged 6-12, and also participating and interacting with the children. I work alongside Tia Felix – Summer Employment Student.

This program will run for 5 weeks throughout the week Mondays are preparation day for the next week,  Tuesdays and Wednesdays are activities with the youth ages 6- 12.

I am honored to be a part of this program it has really taught me a lot about the youth in this community and if it wasn’t for Nerissa Joseph and Darrell Jones’ support I do not know where I would be at today.

If you have any questions and/or ideas please contact Tia or me at the Band Office, we are located in the Education Portable or can be reached by telephone 250-838-6496 ext.223.

Good Morning, Good Afternoon, and Good Evening Splatsin Community.

My name is Tia Felix, who had recently just been hired through the summer student employment program by the Splatsin Education Department.  Why I was hired?  I am working two employed jobs. The first one being, a caretaker for the Quilakwa RV Park and the second one is a Youth Internship for the Splatsin First Nation Community.

Before we get started; a little bit about me.  I am the daughter of Shiela Felix, who had not only raised me, but many other amazing kids. I had recently just graduated from Pleasant Valley Secondary School and had been accepted to The University of British Columbia Okanagan for the Bachelors of Science.  After I succeed at finishing my degree, I will branch off into the Health Field.  Wish me luck!

At the Quilakwa RV Park, I work alongside Celina Leon and Jessica Jones, being a team to complete many ongoing tasks. My daily routine includes paper/ computer filing, cleaning the sites/bathrooms/office, maintaining nature/ grounds, greeting the customers, tour guide, and accounting.  My day also includes the scorching hot sun and super friendly mosquitoes.

As the youth get a summer break from school, they become bored, and that is where I come in.  My job is to plan and schedule for the youth, ranging from the ages of 6 to 12. The Youth internship involves many members of the Splatsin Community.  I work alongside the Education Department, parent guardians, and youth.  My partner in crime is Tyler Christian; together we are planning to organize many exciting events and activities.  The events and activities are to keep the youth busy and active throughout the week and not to nag their parents continuously.

I am thrilled to work with the community, in both the RV Park and the youth of Splatsin.  I guarantee I will have and share an unbelievable experience this summer with everyone.

If you have any questions and/or ideas please contact Tyler or me at the Band Office, we are located in the Education Portable or can be reached by telephone 250-838-6496 ext.223.

Kukstemc,

Tia Felix
